Prioritizing You

August 2, 2025

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get swept up in doing, planning, and caring for others. Whether it’s work, family responsibilities, or the constant pressure to keep up, our own needs can quietly slip to the bottom of the list. We’ve all heard the phrase “put your oxygen mask on before helping others”. Why is it so hard to apply that wisdom in our everyday lives?
Sometimes slowing down to care for ourselves can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or even like a luxury we haven’t earned. Self-care isn’t selfish or indulgent. It’s foundational. It’s how we refuel and restore the body systems that regulate stress, support immunity, and maintain emotional balance. When we take time to care for ourselves, we’re not stepping away from our responsibilities—we're strengthening our capacity to show up fully for them.
At our center, we believe that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. It needs to be intentional and consistent. So, in honor of National Wellness Month, we asked our Health Coaches to share a few simple ways to help you start prioritizing you. Here are their top tips for supporting your well-being in meaningful, sustainable ways that align to the Pillars of Health from our 6-Week Health Overhaul:
  1. Start with Your "Why" - Every change starts with a deeper reason and getting clear around a purpose will keep you grounded when things get busy. “Once you dig deep and discover the true reason you seek optimal health, it will encourage every lifestyle decision you make,” says Angela Longo. Whether it’s showing up more fully for your kids, managing chronic symptoms, or simply feeling like yourself again, name it and return to it often.
  2. Consistency Over Perfection - Striving for perfect routines often leads to burnout or paralysis. “True wellness is not about big fixes; it’s about building a sustainable and maintainable lifestyle. Lasting change comes not just from what we do, but from how we live,” adds Barb Gendron. Each change matters. Celebrate the progress.
  3. Nourish Your Gut to Nourish Your Whole Self - Your gut is often referred to as your “second brain” for good reason: 90% of your immune system lives there, and it plays a major role in producing neurotransmitters like serotonin. “Food prep and gut health are self-care because they directly impact your physical and mental well-being,” says Louisa Skoufis. Taking the time to nourish your body with whole foods isn’t just about digestion, but overall wellness.
  4. Practice Stress Recovery Daily - Many of us associate stress with emotional strain, but our bodies experience stress constantly in many ways: from lack of sleep, screen time, processed foods, even noise. “Our body experiences stress throughout the day that we may not even register. That’s why we recommend breathing or calming techniques even when you’re not actively stressed—so you’re ready when it counts,” says Kristin Giordano. Whether it’s box breathing, humming, or guided meditation, having tools you can use anytime builds resilience.
  5. Take Action - Even when you are not motivated. “We can offer the guidance, the data, the steps—but the consistency, the showing up, that’s where the shift happens,” adds Ellen Postolowski. Whether it’s a 10-minute walk, prepping a colorful lunch, or taking a deep breath before a tough meeting, it counts. Small steps equate to big results.
You deserve to feel well. We invite you to take a step back and ask: What do I need to feel supported today? What’s one small act of care I can offer myself? Healing happens in the small, quiet moments. So wherever you are on your path, take time to acknowledge how far you’ve come. Celebrate the progress, honor the wins, and keep choosing you.
